Agricultural Science Teacher

Job Summary:

The High School Agriculture Teacher is responsible for teaching agriculture-related courses, providing hands-on learning experiences, and fostering an understanding of the agricultural industry. The teacher will create a dynamic and engaging learning environment that incorporates both theoretical knowledge and practical skills in agricultural sciences, with an emphasis on animal science. Additionally, the teacher will supervise FFA activities and support students' participation in agricultural competitions and events.

Requirements: 

Bachelor's degree or higher required. SC teacher certification in Agricultural Science preferred. This area is not certified under the work-based certification program. Certification in this area is obtained by completing an approved undergraduate or graduate teacher education program from a regionally accredited college or university or through an SCDE approved alternative certification program.

Reports To: ATC Principal

Performance Responsibilities:

Instruction & Curriculum Development

• Develop and teach curriculum in areas such as agricultural science, small animal care, animal science, equine science, and introduction to veterinary science.
• Integrate hands-on learning experiences (e.g., greenhouse, farm, or lab activities) into daily lessons.
• Design lesson plans, teaching materials, and assessments aligned with state and national standards.
• Incorporate technology and industry practices into classroom learning.

Student Engagement & Support

• Engage students in agricultural projects, labs, and group activities to apply classroom learning in real-world settings.
• Support students in their FFA leadership and career development activities.
• Assist students with supervised agricultural experiences (SAE) programs.
• Offer academic and career counseling related to agriculture and related fields.

Classroom Facilities & Management

• Maintain and manage the agriculture classroom and any associated facilities (e.g., greenhouse, farm, or animal labs).
• Ensure that equipment, tools, and supplies are safe, well-maintained, and available for use.
• Oversee the maintenance of agricultural projects, such as animal care or plant cultivation, as part of experiential learning.

Working Conditions:

• Classroom and outdoor environments (e.g., greenhouses, farms, livestock areas).
• Evening and weekend hours for FFA events, competitions, and other activities may be required.

Terms of Employment: 240 days on the Teacher Salary Scale

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Certified Staff.
